I said before the election that regardless of the outcome I felt that I was already a winner. What I mean by that is that the experience of running for public office has been one of the most enriching events of my life. Yes it was difficult and challenging, but growth only occurs through adversity. The opportunity to get in front of the wonderful citizens of Gulf Shores and to meet all of the great people in this town has truly been an incredible experience. I have grown personally from this experience and feel blessed to have had the opportunity. Having said all of that, I am glad to have a break from campaigning. I am humbled and honored to have the opportunity to serve this community as your councilman for place four.
The results of this election are a direct result of the many individuals who volunteered to assist in the campaign. The activities that everyone participated in to assist the campaign are too numerous to list but I greatly appreciate every single one that occurred. My family and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts and know that our success is because of your efforts and support.
I would also like to thank the other candidates that competed for office. Their willingness to serve and the positive tone of everyone’s campaign is something that the city of Gulf Shores should be proud. I hope to work with all of the candidates and their supporters and will work passionately to serve all of the citizens of Gulf Shores.
I do not take the responsibility or the trust that you have placed in me lightly. I will work diligently for all of the citizens of Gulf Shores and promise to serve with honesty and openness. I am looking forward to getting to work on your behalf.

The municipal election is finally upon us and you now have your chance to exercise your right to vote. What a great opportunity we have in this free country! I am always humbled by the history of our freedom and the price that has been paid so that we may continue our freedom. The United States of America is the greatest country in the world and we owe it to those before us to vote every opportunity that we have. This ensures that our democracy will survive and honors those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice so that we may be free.
August 26th is the day of the Gulf Shores Municipal Election. The polls open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. I believe this election to be a very important one for Gulf Shores and one that will have long term implications for the future of Gulf Shores. We are a great city but one that has immeasurable untapped potential. We can be even greater!
I would consider it an honor to serve you as a member of the City Council of Gulf Shores Place Four. I will serve to the best of my abilities and would greatly appreciate your support on August 26th. Please get the vote out for this and all other elections.
Healthcare
Many of you may have seen my ad regarding healthcare. If you have not, please go to the print section and click on the “Concerned about Healthcare?” tab. You should be able to view the adobe file. In the ad I refer to a Life Savings Center. I would like to explain this concept further.
When I practiced medicine, now almost 7 years ago, I experienced on several occasions individuals coming to my office with life threatening medical emergencies such as a heart attack or stroke. We did everything that we could in the office; however, in most cases we would have to call the paramedics in Gulf Shores to help stabilize the patient. We would then have to call an ambulance from Foley to come and transport the patient to the hospital north of Foley. This process was very time intensive and luckily the emergencies I experienced had good outcomes. Despite the successful outcomes we experienced, I was always concerned that a situation would arise where the delay in life saving treatment could cost a life. I was concerned 7 years ago and I am still concerned today.
I believe we need in Gulf Shores a facility that can treat and stabilize medical emergencies. I believe that this facility should have the support of full ambulance transport services in Gulf Shores. I believe that a medical center designed this way will have a significant positive impact on this community and indeed will save lives. That is why I have called it a Life Savings Center.
The current Urgent Care Center in Gulf Shores is a wonderful resource; however, it is not designed to accommodate true life threatening emergencies. The Life Savings Center that I envision will have the ability to treat and stabilize true medical emergencies. This facility should be staffed with Board Certified Emergency Room Physicians and will have full diagnostic and treatment capabilities. Patients will be able to get treated emergently and then once stabilized get transported to the facility of their families choosing. I believe that this center is a high priority for our community. I will work to try to make this a reality for Gulf Shores.
As a community, there has been talk about a new hospital and a new surgical center. I embrace the future development of these medical services in this community, but feel that those goals are more long term in nature. The Life Savings Center is something that I believe we have needed for years and that is currently our city’s top medical priority.
I do not plan to be medically or financially involved in this center. I envision a public private partnership utilizing the Gulf Coast Healthcare Authority to structure this venture with the support of interested healthcare delivery systems. Only by this team approach to delivering what we need in this community are we going to improve the healthcare of the citizens of Gulf Shores.
I would like to work to try to make this dream a reality. I realize that this goal will be challenging, but I will work as a member of the Gulf Coast Healthcare Authority and as a Councilman to make this issue a priority for our city government.

Platform
Goals for City Government
I believe that city government is created and maintained to provide its citizens with services and protect the health and welfare of its citizens. My platform is consistent with these principles.
I believe that city government should be accountable to its citizens and that the services that are provided to the citizens are done so efficiently and effectively. The city government is owned by the people and should be accountable to the people. I support complete accountablility of all city services.
I believe that Gulf Shores is in need of improved emergency healthcare. The health of our citizens is dependent on improving this delivery and I believe that we need to work to establish a Life Savings Center with full ambulance service in Gulf Shores. This will help save lives.
I believe that protecting the health and welfare of our citizens also includes protecting the unique quality of life that we have in Gulf Shores. I choose to live here because of this uniqueness and I believe that we should protect this character for generations to come. Growth will occur, it just needs to take place with a strategic vision and supported by appropriate planning.
I am the best candidate to ensure that our local government provides services and is accountable to the citizens of Gulf Shores due to my financial planning background, my Masters of Business Administration credentials, my business ownership, and my experience being a steward of other people’s money. I will work to ensure that the government works for its citizens.
I am the best candidate to ensure the health and welfare of Gulf Shores citizens due to my experience as a doctor. I know how important healthcare is. My experience as a medical practice owner, my medical degree, and my position on the Gulf Coast Healthcare Authority give me the best chance of bringing a Life Savings Center to our community.
I am the best candidate to protect the unique quality of life that we have in Gulf Shores due to my support of smart growth in our community. I recognize that growth will occur; I just believe that this growth needs to be smart. This can be achieved by vision, global long range planning, appropriate zoning, and the enforcement of this zoning. I support the envision GS plan, I am a current member of the Gulf Shores Zoning Board of Adjustments, and I bring a fresh viewpoint to protecting the quality of life in Gulf Shores.
I will work on behalf of the citizens of Gulf Shores and will strive to reach out to extend our cities relationships with other cities, the county, the state, and the federal government. As we face difficult issues in the future I believe encouraging this team approach will serve this city well and help solve the unforeseen problems that Gulf Shores will face. I would be honored to help stimulate this team approach and to be a part of this team. I would appreciate your vote on August 26 for Gulf Shores City Council Place 4.
